Bailey Fishing Pond is located on the south side of Carson City in the southeast area of the Carson City Fairgrounds. It is about 15 feet deep and is fresh water fed by Clear Creek. The Nevada Department of Wildlife stocks the pond with Rainbow Trout. The Bailey Fishing Pond is a great place to take kids for a quick fishing trip.
Today, Vince and I took our son, Parker, to the annual Lyon’s Club Kid’s Fishing Derby. Despite the chilly rain it was incredibly fun. The event is sponsored by the Lyon’s Club. The volunteers who attend are a great example of the generosity and kindness you will find among Carson City residents. Free fishing poles and bait were available. Volunteers were also available to show kids how to set up their poles and to clean the fish the kids caught. My favorite part was the adults who were fishing and sharing their catches, when they had a fish on their line they would hand it to the surrounding kids to real in. The excitement on Parker’s face when he was handed a pole to reel in was unforgettable.
Be sure to take a day this summer and visit Bailey’s Pond or keep an eye open in May or June for the Fishing Derby.
