NORTH WEST CARSON

This neighborhood area is another place for those who crave the outdoors, including Silver Oak, Timberline, and Lakeview.

But what makes this area more accessible is the fact there are a variety of restaurants to choose from, before or after long hikes. North Carson Street also provides shopping venues along the way.

The amenities the neighborhood offers are also beneficial to those enrolled at Western Nevada College, as the campus is nearby.

Hobart Reservoir – This 10-mile back trail leads to the lake and place to observe wildlife.

Marlette Lake – Hike toward Lake Tahoe to arrive at this spot, at 8,200 feet above sea level. The 10-mile round trip is worth a day to gain fresh mountain air and breathtaking views.

Trails

Ash Canyon – Northern Nevada is well known for its enthusiasm in bike routes. Ash Canyon in Carson City offers off-road racecourse trail and back-country access.

Washoe Lake Overlook Trail – This .78 mile trail is open to hiking, running, and mountain biking. It’s easy enough to complete but the great views will have you take your time. Leashed dogs are permitted.

V&T Trail – Located between Kings Canyon Road and Combs Canyon Road, this is an ideal trail for runners. The 1.9-mile trail is gradually graded and it wraps around the north side of Carson City with great views. Although many runners enjoy this route, it’s guaranteed hikers will love it, too.

Astronomical side of North West Carson

Hiking at night takes a lot of planning and safety precautions. But the Jack C. Davis Observatory at Western Nevada College will fill that void.

The observatory is open to the public to catch views of moons, stars, and planets with telescopes perched on the eastern edge of the Sierra Nevada mountains. The observatory also offers planetary walks, seminars, and Saturday Night Star Party lectures featuring guest speakers.

Golf at one of Carson City’s best courses

The Silver Oak Golf & Event Center offers lessons, events, and deals to golf on the course. You’ll enjoy shooting a hole in one on a landscape displaying an astonishing view of the valley, especially during sunset.
